Gallbladder and Associated Health Problems

The gall bladder is located on the right side of the abdomen, carefully protected by the rib cage. It is very small by standards of other organs located in the body, but it does a tremendous job. It helps store bile for the digestion of fatty substances that are ingested on a daily basis. This function helps regulate all digestion that happens in the body, and if somehow it is affected it can cause problems. Problems such as gallstones are one of the most common that affect people throughout the world. These are caused by cholesterol, and bile salts that mix inside of the gallbladder. Hard, stone like deposits can come in varying sizes and can often become lodged inside the biliary ducts. Jaundice can often be a complication of the biliary system becoming backed up due to the stones blocking the biliary ducts. One of the most common symptoms that someone will suffer when this occurs is pain, whether or not it is severe depends on the amount, or placement of stones.

Mild Gallbladder Symptoms

While some people can experience mild to moderate pain, gall bladder symptoms are often extremely painful. Sometimes people will be asymptomatic, which means they will suffer from no pain at all. Often times people will go through a routine exam such as an ultrasound and discover that they have gallstones. A few more mild symptoms are indigestion, gas, bloating, and a general full sensation after consuming small to medium sized meals. Cramping and pain are also common to suffer from with this condition.

Serious Gallbladder Symptoms

Medical attention is needed for any of these symptoms such as pain below the right shoulder, fever, nausea, vomiting, sweating, chills, or a yellowing of the skin, eyes, and pads below the finger nails. Some of these symptoms can mirror other conditions such as kidney stones, ulcers, and even pneumonia so no one should take a chance if they experience any of the above symptoms and seek medical help as soon as possible. There are a wide variety of tests that can be run to rule out possible causes of these symptoms.

A lot of time gallbladder pain can be managed by controlling diet. By consuming foods that are low in fat, spice, it will put less strain on the gallbladder to store and push bile into the system. However, if the pain is severe and cannot be controlled then a doctor’s visit should be made. There are several different tests that can be performed to determine the exact cause of pain, and outline a proper care plan.
